Watching Trevor pop in his first goal this past year......Awesome!

I'd prefer a winning shut-out....but if I can't have that, let's play for the WIN in overtime! Trevor, we all will miss you! Never forget #36!

A nice post from the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles Message Board.  (Link is http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=202831&messageid=1059271840)  I couldn't have put it any better myself:

My thoughts on Trevor Ettinger..
by Davey Boy Smith (Login DavidLorneSmith)

I cannot call myself a friend of Trevor Ettinger. I really only met him a few times and never really on a truly personal level. But, you cannot help but feel an attachment for these young men that come to our community and play for the team that we cheer for.

Especially the ones with true class and character.

Trevor Ettinger was one of those players that you remember. Others had more talent. Some went farther in hockey. But Ettinger was a player - and a man - to be proud of.

He was the first Screaming Eagle to be drafted in the NHL and our first pick EVER in the QMJHL draft so he was signifcant in a statistical way.

But statistics are not what is the proper thing to talk about when talking about Trevor Ettinger.

Trevor was our first true "hero" when it came to the Eagles. This is a small community so it is never a secret who the truly nice guys are and who aren't. Trevor was one of those nice guys. He was also a frequent visitor in the community and helped sell this fledging hockey team when it so desperately needed selling.

I don't wish to ever suggest that I feel what his family does right now. But these players do find a place in our hearts. There are many of us that never forget some players. Trevor was one of those who you never forget.

I don't know why he did what he did - and really it is none of my business. What his family must be going through right now is pure living hell. Let's hope we never have to experience it. But, as I said, we grow an attachment to these young men that some to play in our town, so we too need to grieve, to come to grips with something like this.

Rest in peace Trevor - I hope you find the peace in death you obviously could not find in life. There are many sad today that you are no longer with us.

In the beginning there was you and me
I would have brushed my world aside
Rather than say goodbye

- John Popper

This bums me out BIGTIME!  Well, I must say these words.

Trevor was amazing to watch. His presence on the ice was lifting, inspiring to the team and he knew how to hold his end of the bargain.  Trevor never backed down and did his job and was well liked by the community.  When the opposition's fans (Amerks) stand up IN SYRACUSE and Applaud WITH the Crunch fans FOR Ettinger, that said something.  I remember standing up and applauding him and thiking.... "man, I would love to have him on our team!"  I remember me and Charlie standing up and smiling.  It's a pleasure, as a major hockey fan and fan of good players who are dedicated, to stand up for guys like Trevor.

Watching how polite, honest and wholesome he was on the ice showed his character. Never any cheapshots, only the fist to the face and after a nice hands in the air "I'm done" gesture.   He smiled to the crowd, enjoyed the crowd and PLEASED the crowd.

Sad day, Folks.   Sad day for his family, fans in Syracuse, Rochester, Dayton and in Hockey all over.

My 14yo son and I talk about the best fighters to ever wear a Crunch uniform, he liked Badduke ,Doyle and Trevor. I had no dought that Trevor was the best to ever wear the Crunch uniform. From his first big home fight vs Matt O'Dette when he hit Matt with a monster right cutting him real bad...Trevor was a true team player doing everything Gary asked him to do. ......God bless everyone involved in this....This is the worst lost in team history...

I was fortunate enough to talk to Trevor a couple of times, and he was a really cool guy.  It was great to have him play for us - he played with heart (and a big bag o' knuckles).  I feel it's safe to speak for all of us when I say we were looking forward to him laying out the bad guys in the upcoming season.

Last season, I got to play chauffeur to (among others) Trevor's mom and sister for a road Rochester game.  Trevor's mom mentioned how backwards his two-fisted approach to hockey was from his off-ice persona.

Thanks, Trevor, for making us stand and cheer, and taking the time to talk and shake a hand.  We'll miss you.
