Crunch Rewind :

Ducks Down Crunch 3-1

by Jeff Parzych

Pierre Parenteau scored once and added an assist and Kurtis Foster added a goal to lead the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 3-1 win over the Syracuse Crunch in American Hockey League action Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period Cincinnati opened the scoring just over a minute into period number two. Cory Pecker took a Tim Brent pass in the neutral zone and broke into the Crunch zone on a mini two-on-one break with defenseman Kurtis Foster. The two Ducks worked the play to perfection, resulting in a vicious one-timer unleashed by Foster that beat a sliding Goehring for the score.

Later in the second the Crunch evened things up thanks to some undisciplined play from Cincinnati defenseman Tomas Malec. Already in the penalty box for roughing, Malec continued to object to the call to Referee Gordon Dwyer, drawing an additional two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

On the resulting power play the Crunch cashed in on a goal from Alexander Svitov. He deflected a Joe Motzko shot from the high slot that found its way past Duck netminder Ilya Bryzgalov for his 15th of the year and a 1-1 game.

Any momentum the Crunch gained from their late second period tally was quickly neutralized in the third by a goal from the Ducks just 23 seconds into period number three. Pierre Parenteau's opportunistic tally regained the lead for Cincinnati and set the stage for a disappointing final twenty minutes for Syracuse.

Late in the third, with the Ducks holding a man advantage, Stanislav Chistov put things away for Cincinnati. His shot from just inside the face-off circle squeezed thru the pads of Goehring for his 12th of the year and a 3-1 final.

Short Shifts:

Center Chris Ferraro hurt his hand in Friday's game versus the Ducks and the original prognosis has him out up to six weeks………Defenseman Andre Lakos attempted to return to the Crunch lineup on Saturday., but was unsuccessful. He warmed up with the club and was not a scratch, but he didn't see any action. Lakos' absence forced the Crunch to play with only five defensemen…………Steve Goertzen took a puck to the face at the 3:40 mark of the second and left the ice bleeding. He returned to action later in the period…………By going 1-6 on the power play Saturday night the Crunch have recorded at least one goal with the man advantage in their last three games and six of their last seven contests…….With an assist on Saturday Joe Motzko now has recorded helpers in five straight games.
