Brandon Bochenski scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime to lead the Binghamton Senators to a come from behind 4-3 win over the Syracuse Crunch Saturday night in American Hockey League action.
The Crunch opened the scoring in this one late in the first period on a goal from Alexander Svitov. Syracuse's leading scorer collected a gorgeous drop pass from Greg Mauldin and his one-timer beat Senator netminder Ray Emery for his 9th of the season a 1-0 Crunch lead.
Just over three minutes later Syracuse added to that lead on a power play goal from Brad Moran. The veteran center corralled what appeared to be a shot from the point by blueliner Aaron Johnson and easily slipped a backhander past a prone Emery for a two-goal Crunch advantage heading into the second period.
Early in the second the Crunch made it a three goal game courtesy of some nice tic-tac-toe passing from their rejuvenated power play unit. Joe Motzko one-timed an Andre Lakos pass to Brad Moran, who was camped to the left of the Senator net. Moran buried the pass for his second of the game and Syracuse's second power play marker of the contest.
Back-to-back goals from Binghamton brought the Senators to within one with just under 15 minutes left in the second period. Denis Hamel's 16th of the season made it a 3-1 Crunch and Christoph Schubert's controversial goal at the 5:11 mark made it a one goal game. Schubert's goal appeared to have gone thru the Crunch net, but no call was made by the referee. Only after a lengthy deliberation was the goal allowed.
Binghamton completed their comeback late in regulation on a power play goal from rookie Brandon Bochenski. The rookie's follow of a Jason Spezza offering fluttered over the shoulder of Goehring to tie things at three.
In the extra session that combination struck again. This time Bochenski pounded home a Spezza feed from behind the net for his tenth of the season and the game-winner.
Ray Emery stopped 29 Syracuse shots in recording his 7th win of the season. Karl Goehring turned aside 32 Senator shots and snaps his personal five game winning streak with the loss.
