Andy Canzanello scored once and Greg Mauldin chipped in with a pair of assists to lead the Syracuse Crunch to a 3-2 win over the Toronto Marlies in American Hockey League action Saturday night.
Toronto opened the scoring in this one with a power play goal just 1:51 into the first period. With the Marlies holding a five-on-three advantage, John Pohl rang one off the post to beat Syracuse netminder Andrew Penner for his 9th goal of the season.
Later in the first the Crunch answered the Marlies tally with a power play goal of the own. After two successive failed five-on-three attempts, Syracuse was able to convert with just a one man advantage on the first goal of the year from rookie Andy Canzanello. His shot thru traffic beat a screened Jean-Sebastien Aubin to tie things at one heading into the middle twenty.
In the second the Crunch took the lead with two more power play goals. Joakim Lindstrom got things rolling at the 4:01 mark with his fourth of the season. Lindstrom took a gorgeous drop pass from Greg Mauldin and beat Aubin high for the score.
Later in the period Geoff Platt struck for his 14th of the year off a pretty feed from Andy Delmore. Platt appeared to whiff on the shot while attempting to go high and that may have fooled Aubin, who was beat low on the play.
Carlo Colaiacovo’s goal, his fifth of the year, at the 17:16 mark of the third made things interesting, but the Crunch was able to hang on for the win.
Andrew Penner recorded 25 saves for his second win in as many nights and his third of the season. Former Crunch netminder Jean-Sebastien Aubin recorded 35 saves in a losing effort for the Marlies.
With the win the Crunch earned five of a possible six points in their three games in three nights stretch and they also have recorded points in five of their last six games.
