Before a decent crowd of 5,517 fans, the Crunch were defeated bythe Cincinnati Mighty Ducks last night, 4-2.  Ducks goalie Ilja Bryzgalov stopped 18 of 20 Crunch shots to post his fourth win of the seaosn, three of which have come against the Crunch.
Veteren NHL referee, and former hated Broome County Duster enforcer, Paul Stewart was assigned to the game, leaving no doubt has to what kind of game would be called.  Lots of clutching, grabbing, and assorted other normally called penalties were ignored as "Stewie" decided to let them play, much to the chargin of the Crunch faithfull.
The Ducks opened the scoring at the 9:23 mark, with RW Jonas Ronnqvist getting the power play goal assisted by Timo Parssined and Yuri Butsayev.  The Crunch tied the game late in the first on a fluke goal by LW Jeremy Reich.  Reich sent the puck hard into the corner to Bryzgalov's right, with the puck coming off the boards straight at the netminder's back, ending up behind the startled goalie.  The goal was Reich's second of the season, unassisted.  Right off the faceoff, Crunch RW Kent McDonell and Ducks RW Bruce Richardson dropped the gloves and engaged in the game's only scrap.  Richardson gets the decision in the spirited bout.  The period ended tied at 1, with the Crunch out-shooting the Ducks 8 to 6.
Early in the second, Syracuse defenseman Derrick Walser picked up a 10 minute misconduct while engaging Ducks players in "pleasant" conversation after the play.  This is normally a call Stewart does not make, and I was not in  aposition to hear what was said.  The Ducks would score twice with Walser serving his misconduct, the first at the 7:22 mark with Butsayev getting a power play goal, his fourth, assisted by Andy McDonald and Parssinen.  McDonald then scored to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead, closing out a two on one with Butsayev getting the lone assist.  The Ducks led after two, 3-1.  Crunch gaolie J.F. Labbe had turned aside 13 of 16 shots at this point.
The Crunch scored their second of the night at the 14:48 mark, with C Andrej Nedorost getting his second of the season, assisted by C Blake Bellefeuille.  The puck was on edge and spinning as it crossed the line, with the goal judge giving the Crunch credit, much to the dismay of the Ducks.  Just 41 seconds later, the Ducks regained their two goal cushion as Butsayev scored his second of the game and fifth of the season, again assisted by McDonald.
Shots on goal ended 26-20 in favor of the Ducks, as the horn sounded to give the Ducks a 4-2 victory.
The Crunch played without several key players due to call-ups.  Captain Sean Pronger, Brett Harkins, Mathieu Darche, and Matt Davidson all missed the game after being recalled by the Blue Jackets.  Harkins has since been placed on the IR list with an abdominal injury.  Martin Paroulek continues to recover from a head injury suffered last week.  Duvie Westcott and Paul Manning were also scratched.  The Crunch recalled C Preston Mizzi and RW Cory Morgan from Dayton of the ECHL, in addition to bringing up RW Brad Wingfield from Elmira of the UHL for one game.
